Knowing the Nation

This is a magazine cover analysis that we have done to better understand how to put together our magazine covers. We have also done some target auidence research: TARGET AUDIENCE
RhythmNation
Changing the gender of the cover model, makes the magazine appeal to both sexes; however the colour scheme of red, black & white is predominantly male.
Choosing colours which are not pastels or weak, keeping it bold and eye catching, reflects our strong focus on aiming at the young. Hopefully bold, bright colour will appeal more to 15 to 25 year olds.
Keeping the cover lines humourous, relaxed and informal is in keeping with a young audience looking to be entertained. The use of celebrity could also be a positive factor in the growing fame age, if people recognise names & faces the magazine would be undoubtably more popular.

Our target audience is 15-25, reasonably trendy, interested in celebrity & music, middle class (magazine being sold at £2.45), unisex, although more focused at men.
Here are some campaign out there aimed at a similar target audience at the moment:

All these images use beauty and colour to grab the audiences attention, also in the ‘Skins’ campaigns they use nudity and a messy party like mise-en-scene. They play on young adults aspirations, for example the reflection of a beach in the topshop campaign, accompanied by a thin, pretty model. The majority keep the layout free and often put slogan’s on a slant.
